Bush’s Gavin Rossdale recently disclosed his all-time favorite albums during his appearance on AXS TV’s Stranded!, listing works by David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, and U2 among his essential listens.
Rossdale’s selection for his hypothetical deserted island stay comprises a mix of genres, showing his wide-ranging musical tastes. His choices include Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’ from 2016, Tricky’s trip-hop record ‘Maxinquaye’ from 1995, Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ from 2006, U2’s ‘The Joshua Tree’ from 1987, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ ‘The Boatman’s Call’ from 1997.
A Spectrum Of Sounds

The frontman’s selections span a variety of musical landscapes. ‘Blackstar’ is remembered as Bowie’s farewell, an album that blends art rock with experimental jazz. ‘Maxinquaye’ brought the sounds of trip-hop and electronic music to the forefront, while ‘Back to Black’ offered a modern take on soul, R&B, and neo-soul. Cave’s ‘The Boatman’s Call’ stands out as an exploration of folk, blues, and jazz.
The Bush vocalist’s connection to Bowie runs deep, tracing back to his childhood when he first discovered his ‘Ziggy Stardust’ album at age 9, a gift from his aunt.
Rossdale’s admiration for Bowie was further cemented when Bush toured with the late artist in the ’90s, an experience that offered him invaluable insights. Recalling a piece of advice from Bowie on handling criticism, Rossdale shared to Classic Rock magazine in 2022:
“Outlive your critics. Even to recount it doesn’t make sense. It feels like a different age, a different time.”
In early December 2023, it was reported that Gavin announced he was making progress on a new Bush album, with seven tracks already completed. He expressed hopes for its release in early 2024.
