Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson has voiced her stance against social inequality and discrimination. She shared her thoughts while discussing the band’s new song ‘Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty’ with Rolling Stone.

Manson reflected on her evolving perspective regarding the societal treatment of marginalized groups. She shared her observations about systemic inequalities during a discussion about the new track from their upcoming album ‘Let All We Imagine Be the Light.’

“When I was young, I didn’t really notice how things worked. People like to shuffle older women off the lot, because you start to see the chessboard in a way you didn’t when you were younger,” Manson said.

She elaborated on her growing awareness of social issues: “When you’re young, you’re wanting to get on with your life, have an adventure, do what you love, and you’re conditioned by the society that you grew up in. A lot of the time you don’t see what’s going on. Then, as you get older, you start to see how things are stacked up against some of us – not all of us. I am outraged by the way the world treats blacks and browns and gays and trans peoples and animals and women.”

Manson expressed her concerns about recent social developments. “All the rights that we felt had been secured are starting to get pushed back into the Middle Ages. It is something that I can no longer tolerate silently. It’s not just infuriating, it’s alarming. It’s frightening.”

Her latest statement reinforces her long-standing commitment to social activism and advocacy work throughout her career.

Documentation from biographical sources highlighted Manson’s prominent role in various social causes. She served as an ambassador for the M•A•C AIDS Fund. Her efforts helped raise over $100 million for AIDS charities through dedicated campaigns and personal involvement.

Her advocacy work extends into the music industry itself. Coverage from SXSW revealed Manson’s role as an ambassador for the PRS Foundation’s Keychange campaign. The initiative aims to achieve 50-50 gender parity in festival lineups by 2022.

France24 documented Manson’s consistent use of her platform to challenge industry norms and speak out against discrimination. Her recent statements continue this established pattern of activism.

The new song ‘Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty’ appears on Garbage’s forthcoming album ‘Let All We Imagine Be the Light.’
