Fans believe this enigmatic post may be related to an announcement about the group’s new drummer, Ilan Rubin. His addition to the band has not yet been officially confirmed.

The timing of the post has led to widespread speculation that an official announcement regarding the band’s lineup changes may be imminent.

This cryptic social media activity comes amid significant changes in the band’s lineup that have been developing over recent months. The speculation surrounding Rubin’s involvement appears to be well-founded based on recent industry developments.

Modern Drummer reported that sources close to the Foo Fighters have indicated that Ilan Rubin will be joining as their new drummer. This marks a significant shift following the band’s recent parting with drummer Josh Freese in May. Rubin brings impressive credentials to the role, having served as the dynamic drummer for Nine Inch Nails since 2009.

The 37-year-old musician made history when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 as its youngest-ever member at age 32, Ultimate Classic Rock noted. His extensive experience includes work with various high-profile acts and a reputation for versatile drumming skills that span multiple genres.

This personnel change involves an unusual “drummer swap” between the Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails. While Rubin moves to the Foo Fighters, Josh Freese returns to Nine Inch Nails, where he was a touring member from 2005 to 2008. The Los Angeles Times revealed that Nine Inch Nails has welcomed Freese back enthusiastically on social media, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement for both bands.

Rubin is expected to perform drums for Foo Fighters’ upcoming tour dates across Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Mexico. However, it remains unclear if his role is permanent or tour-specific. The band’s mysterious Instagram post may serve as the precursor to a formal announcement that will clarify these arrangements and officially welcome Rubin to the Foo Fighters family.
