The families of Wayne Static and his wife Tera Wray have issued a joint statement addressing concerns about unauthorized biographical and documentary projects. The statement was shared on Facebook.

The families made clear their position regarding any unauthorized portrayals of the deceased Static-X frontman and his wife. They stated that they are not interested in further development of unauthorized projects. They also warned of legal consequences for any exploitation of their likenesses.

“We are sharing this with the world to ensure that our feelings are crystal clear on this matter,” the families said. “We are not interested in the further development of any unauthorized biography or documentary focused on our deceased son, daughter, and siblings, Wayne Wells (‘Wayne Static’) and Tera Lents (‘Tera Wray’).”

The statement specified that this prohibition extends to various forms of media, including behind-the-scenes footage, concert recordings, and private photographs. The families emphasized their commitment to protecting the legacies of both individuals.

“This includes but is not limited to: any behind-the-scenes footage from music videos, adult film sets, concerts, house parties, developmental projects, reality TV pilots, private photos, or any other portrayals of Wayne Wells Static, Tera Lents Wray Static, or either of their likenesses,” they continued. “Any attempt to exploit their unauthorized likeness will be met with the appropriate legal response.”

The families also referenced existing music videos and announced an official documentary project currently in development. They noted that Static-X is nearing completion of “Evil Disco – The Rise, Fall, And Regeneration Of Static-X.” The documentary will run approximately 80 minutes and comprehensively explore Wayne Static’s life and legacy.

The statement comes more than a decade after the tragic loss of the Static-X frontman. Wayne Static died on November 1, 2014, at age 48 due to multiple prescription drug toxicity involving opioids, anti-anxiety medication, and alcohol, according to Wikipedia. His death marked the end of an era for the industrial metal band that he founded and led throughout his career.

Tera Wray married Wayne Static in 2008 and was with him at the time of his death. IMDb records indicate that Tera Wray was a former adult film actress before her marriage to the Static-X frontman. The couple’s relationship and the circumstances surrounding their deaths have remained subjects of public interest and media attention in the years following the tragedy.

The families’ statement reflects their desire to control the narrative surrounding Wayne Static’s legacy. They aim to prevent exploitation of his image and work. Wayne Static was a platinum-selling musician whose contributions to industrial metal music left a lasting impact on the genre, as noted by Wall Of Sound. The families’ protective stance underscores the importance they place on ensuring that any future projects honor his memory appropriately.

The statement concluded by inviting anyone with rare or unseen footage to share it with the families for potential inclusion in the official documentary. They emphasized that any unreleased music featuring Wayne Static’s voice would require estate approval before release. This measured approach suggests the families are open to legitimate projects that celebrate Wayne Static’s artistic achievements while firmly rejecting unauthorized exploitation.
