Extreme metal drummer Nick Barker has revealed he is seeking financial support due to his inability to tour following a diagnosis of kidney failure. The drummer shared his situation on Almorak.
Barker detailed the extent of his health condition and its impact on his career. He explained that the ongoing medical treatment prevents him from performing.
“Well, as many of you probably know, I went through kidney failure,” Barker said. “I’m stage five chronic kidney disease, which means my kidneys have totally failed and I have to have dialysis four times a week for four hours each time. And this is basically what is keeping me alive right now.”
He further elaborated on his current treatment and the hope for recovery.
“I’m on the transplant list, so I hope to get a new kidney sometime later this year,” he continued. “And this means that I cannot tour or make music or travel, because of my dialysis schedule. So, I have a GoFundMe page, which helps me, basically because I cannot earn any money because I can’t work anymore. So, it’s for fans to donate anything if they feel like it. And I appreciate all the help from everyone, and I hope to be back playing the drums very, very soon.”
Barker is currently undergoing dialysis and is on a transplant list. Barker’s career has spanned decades, featuring prominently in influential extreme metal bands such as Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. His distinctive drumming style has been a hallmark of the genre’s evolution.
