In a surprising career shift announced on his social media, CJ McMahon, the former frontman for Thy Art Is Murder, has entered the real estate industry.

On February 22, McMahon took to Instagram to share a significant moment in his life—a video of himself cutting his long hair, which he had grown out of for 15 years. In his post, he expressed:

“A new, fresh start. It took a lot for me to cut my hair after having long hair for 15 years. Thank you to Allie Cruze, who owns Allies Way Hair and Beauty, for giving me my new look. I have a new path and future in Realestate’s and I want to hit the ground running. I have created a new Instagram for my new career for the people that would like to see my new future. I beg and plead that the handful of people that hate me and just want to throw shade at me here do not follow this page and let me move on with my life; throw your shade here all you like.”

Embracing Change

Further showcasing his transition, McMahon posted photos of himself at his new workplace, dressed in a professional suit, alongside a colleague. With a look markedly different from his metal band days, he shared his excitement and optimism for the future, writing:

“Let’s f*cking go, Steve Arentz. The future is looking very bright for CJ McMahon.”

Controversial Departure From Music

The change in career path comes after a series of controversies that led to McMahon’s departure from Thy Art Is Murder. In August 2023, following a backlash over an anti-trans comment and subsequent support of a controversial video shared by political commentator Matt Walsh, the singer exited social media.

Thy Art Is Murder distanced themselves from McMahon’s remarks, affirming their support for transgender rights, while the musician issued an apology, which has since been removed. September 2023 saw Thy Art Is Murder releasing their ‘Godlike’ album, with Tyler Miller of Aversion Crown stepping in as the new vocalist, marking the official split with McMahon.

Caught off guard by the announcement, McMahon later revealed his forced apology and the existence of a second, unreleased video. The band’s decision to replace McMahon’s vocals and proceed with their tour ignited further controversy among fans and critics alike over the handling of his departure.
