Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, and Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron joined forces and formed a band named 3rd Secret. The band’s debut album has also just arrived.
Krist Novoselic had already hinted in February 2022 that they were working on a new record. He had stated that he hoped the album would arrive in the spring of 2022, but he also wrote in a now-deleted tweet that it was a secret.
Novoselic spilled the secret with this now-deleted tweet:
“I am really busy trying to finish a record. In the middle of some hangups, looking for a mid-March release. But it’s a secret, so don’t tell anybody!”
Kim Thayil had also joined an interview with Lifeminute last month and stated that he would be delighted to reunite with his former bandmates, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd. He had revealed that they like working together, so they certainly had an interest in producing something new.
Thayil, Novoselic, and Cameron finally came together in a supergroup, 3rd Secret. Besides these three names, the band also features Void’s Bubba Dupree, Jillian Raye, and Jennifer Johnson from Giants in the Trees. They surprisingly released their debut album on April 11, 2022. The album consists of 11 tracks in total. The band also recently performed a secret show at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture.
