Rolling Stone revealed that former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has avoided jail time in a vehicular manslaughter case.

The Pearl Jam touring guitarist reached a plea agreement in the vehicular manslaughter case. He entered a no contest plea to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, leading to a resolution of the legal proceedings.

Klinghoffer faced charges of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence last year. The negotiated plea deal has now helped him avoid potential imprisonment.

Recent developments have brought new details about the incident to light.

The Music documented the tragic events of March 18, 2024. Klinghoffer struck a pedestrian named Israel Sanchez in Alhambra, California. Sanchez later died from his injuries.

Stereogum detailed the terms of the plea agreement. Klinghoffer must complete one year of informal probation and serve 30 to 60 days of community labor. He is also required to complete a driver safety class and pay restitution. The restitution amount remains undetermined.

The prosecutor delivered a clear warning during the proceedings: “If you continue to drive while distracted, and as a result of your driving, someone is killed, you can be charged with murder.” Klinghoffer confirmed his understanding of this warning.

The criminal case has concluded. However, Rock 929 noted that a civil case involving the wrongful death lawsuit continues. A hearing is scheduled for July 1, 2025.
