The statement revealed that Hatrix had settled a royalty lawsuit against the band’s founding drummer and keyboardist Steve ‘Skinny’ Felton. It emphasized a positive resolution between the former bandmates.

He continued to express appreciation for how the settlement was handled. He also outlined his future approach regarding the band.

“From here out, there will be nothing negative about Mushroomhead or Skinny on my page,” he continued. “He came to the table amicably and honorably and we found a solution that made both of us happy.”

Hatrix also reflected on the band’s legacy and his current creative direction.

“Skinny and I founded Mushroomhead and it’s great to see the fanbase and community it has built,” he said. “I’m proud of that and I know he is. Mushroomhead is his and I wish him the best. My creative baby is now my solo work. Will I ever work with Shroom again? Time will tell. I’m not against it. But I have no ill feelings either way. I want everybody to win.”

The vocalist concluded by thanking fans for their support. He emphasized his commitment to moving forward positively.

“Thank you all for your years of support and for having my back when it was needed, but from here on out it’s nothing but positivity in that direction,” he said. “I said I was done with drama and I meant it. Love you guys!”

This settlement marks the end of a legal chapter between two founding members who helped establish one of Cleveland’s most distinctive metal acts over three decades ago.

The band’s official website noted that Mushroomhead have been performing incognito since 1993, when drummer Skinny founded the band as a side-project. The masked performers originally wore disguises so members could continue with their other musical commitments without conflict.

The Cleveland-based group emerged from Ohio’s underground music scene with a unique approach that set them apart from their contemporaries. Last.fm reported that the band was originally formed as a side-project for members of other Cleveland bands. This allowed musicians to explore different creative directions while maintaining their primary musical commitments.

Hatrix’s tenure with the band spanned multiple eras. He served as a founding member and vocalist from 1993 to 2004, then returned for another significant period from 2013 to 2022. Wikipedia documented that his contributions can be heard on releases ranging from the early Mushroomhead 4 Song Demo in 1993 through to XIII in 2003. They also appear on later releases from The Righteous & the Butterfly onward during his second stint with the group.

The band’s theatrical approach and innovative sound helped them build a dedicated following over the years. Their masked performances became a signature element that influenced the broader metal scene. Their commitment to anonymity through elaborate costumes and masks allowed the music to take center stage while creating an air of mystery that captivated audiences worldwide.
