Bruce Kulick, ex-member of KISS, recently recalled how he was shot in an altercation in Hollywood via a post on Instagram.

The guitarist shared a newspaper piece from October 16, 2003, on IG, which covered the news of how he got shot during a violent attack. Then, he captioned the post with a set of lyrics from his song ‘I’ll Survive’ and wrote:

“The warm smoking gun couldn’t take me away; my life was spared, I was blessed that day.”

Kulick continued by recalling that day and detailing what went down:

“Today, Oct 16th is the 20th anniversary of being shot on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. Someone’s anger wildly shooting a handgun from a block away in front of the Rainbow Bar and Grill, caused a bullet to go through my leg, and another grazed my left temple.”

He also stated how ‘blessed’ he felt to have survived the violent altercation and added:

“The lyrics I posted above from BK3, were inspired from the events of that night. I was very fortunate that the bullet to my leg went through flesh and the head wound was an abrasion. One inch difference for those two bullets could [have] changed my life in a very bad way. In retrospect, I was blessed that day.”

The suspect who wounded Kulick and one more person was a 21-year-old named John Kale Phillips, who apparently got into an argument at a Hollywood nightclub and got kicked out. After that, he decided to grab his gun from his car and shoot randomly. You can see Kulick’s post and news coverage here.
