Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has addressed former bandmate Max Cavalera’s criticism of the current lineup in a recent interview with Cassius Morris.
Kisser responded to Max Cavalera’s statement that ‘everybody knows that it’s not the same and it’s never gonna be the same’ with dismissive remarks.
‘I hope so,’ Kisser said with a laugh. ‘Who is the same? Tell me somebody that is the same 10 years ago or yesterday… And who cares? Who cares what he says [about] us?’
‘It’s just not a part of what I am or of what I live or what I do,’ he explained. ‘Opinions are out there. You have an opinion. It’s the same as he has an opinion, or my son has an opinion. Whatever. If you have an opinion, speak up. You’re free to speak up. So enjoy.’
This exchange marks the latest development in the ongoing dialogue between current and former members of the legendary Brazilian metal band.
In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie, Max Cavalera reinforced his position. Loudwire captured his statement: ‘They still call it Sepultura, but everybody knows that’s not the same and it’s never going to be the same.’
Despite ongoing tensions, some hope for reconciliation remains. Blabbermouth revealed Kisser’s openness to a final show with all former members. He expressed interest in gathering on stage to ‘jam to ourselves, to our families and to our fans especially and celebrate one last gig all together.’
Decibel Magazine noted that Max Cavalera has turned his attention to other projects. He now focuses on collaborations with his brother Igor, including the ‘Third World’ trilogy tour. The brothers are also re-recording Sepultura’s early material under the Cavalera banner.
Sepultura’s announcement of their farewell tour in 2024 sparked new reunion speculation. Max Cavalera has since dedicated himself entirely to Cavalera Conspiracy. This decision has effectively ended any immediate prospects of him rejoining his former band.
