Former Journey bassist Ross Valory addressed persistent speculation about a potential reunion involving founding members of the band, including himself and longtime vocalist Steve Perry.
The discussion comes as Journey continues its ongoing farewell tour. Valory offered his perspective on the years-long rumors surrounding a full reunion of the band’s classic lineup in comments shared on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.
“Not that I know of, no… And there’s been rumors for years about Steve Perry returning,” Valory said. “And he has to keep telling people, ‘No, I’m just not doing it.'”
Valory went on to acknowledge why the idea continues to resonate with the band’s audience, even as he downplayed the likelihood of it happening.
“And you understand it from the fans’ standpoint — that’s what they really want,” Valory continued. “The hardcore fans want to see everybody together. But I don’t see that happening.”
Valory’s comments echo statements Perry himself has made directly to fans about his future with the band.
Journey’s current farewell run, known as the Final Frontier Tour, kicked off on February 28, 2026, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. What began as a single-leg outing has since ballooned into one of the band’s most extensive touring campaigns in recent memory. Additional dates were tacked on throughout the year. The tour is now set to close out with a hometown finale in San Francisco on November 28, 2026, bringing more than 50 years of Journey’s history full circle.
The scale of the farewell run has only fueled speculation among fans hoping for a classic-lineup reunion before the band steps off the road for good. Earlier this year, guitarist Neal Schon reportedly reached out to Perry about joining Journey for select performances during the tour. This reignited hopes that the iconic voice behind hits like “Don’t Stop Believin'” might make a surprise return.
Perry, however, put those rumors to rest himself. In February 2026, the singer addressed the speculation directly in a message to fans, making clear that a reunion was not in the cards.
“The speculation regarding my return to the band is simply unfounded, and I wish to gently dispel it,” Perry said. “While I truly appreciate the affection people continue to show, I am not rejoining Journey for this tour or any future performances.”
Perry’s statement, paired with Valory’s more recent remarks, paints a consistent picture. Despite the enduring hopes of longtime fans, a full reunion of Journey’s most beloved lineup remains unlikely as the band closes out its farewell chapter.
