Erik Grönwall has opened up about his time with Skid Row and revealed his final offer to the band.

“I left to respect the person who went through the leukemia — I mean, the person at the hospital,” he explained during a new interview with Chaoszine. “I promised myself that I would always put my health first. And when I felt like I couldn’t do that being in the band, I just had to make that decision.”

“I loved my time in the band. I had so much fun with the guys. We clicked right away, and I will always look back at that time with a smile, for sure. And I would have loved to stay in the band. But given the circumstances, we just couldn’t find common ground in terms of how much we should tour,” he continued.

“I’m not sure if it’s been said in any interview, but, for me, it was never about not touring at all,” Grönwall added. “I just wanted to have more time in between to recover. So, my suggestion was three weeks on the road, including traveling, and then one month off, three weeks on the road, including traveling, one month off, just to have that time in between. But they didn’t find that feasible, and that’s totally fine. I mean, Skid Row has been doing this since before I was born. [Laughs] They have a recipe. I totally respect that they didn’t find out feasible at all. But it was what I needed, and here we are.”

After the singer parted ways with Skid Row due to his health issues, he announced that he would be touring Europe with Michael Schenker this year. Fans reacted negatively, questioning his ability to tour, given that he previously said his health wouldn’t allow him to do so. One fan commented, “What happened to not being able to tour?”

“Hey, medicine-free and one with all the vaccinations!” Grönwall responded. “I never said I wasn’t able to tour, only that the amount of touring at the time was too much to handle during my recovery process. Feels great to head back out!”

Some fans even suggested that Grönwall should return to Skid Row. “So, why don’t you come back to Skid Row and celebrate the upcoming live album?” Someone else added, “You could come back with Skid, it would be fantastic!”

However, the rocker is currently working on his solo career while Skid Row is looking for a permanent singer. Skid Row completed their 2024 tour with Lzzy Hale as the guest vocalist. Grönwall took the stage for the first time after his departure at Europe’s May 23 concert at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden last year.
