Ed Sheeran Faces Plagiarism Accusations Once Again For Ripping Off Songwriters With ’Eastside’

The famous musician and songwriter Ed Sheeran is facing a brand new copyright infringement lawsuit over the track, ‘Eastside’ along with other musicians who worked on the song including Benny Blanco, Halsey, and Khalid, after the song is allegedly turned out to be a rip off from American XO’s 2015 song, ‘Loveless’ which isn’t surprising considering how similar two tracks sound.

As some of you might know, Eastside’ was released by record producer Benny Blanco featuring two well-known singers, Halsey and Khalid in addition to Ed Sheeran as co-writer on July 12, 2018, as Blanco’s debut single. The track gained major success debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at number nine on the chart as well as topping charts within the top ten in several other countries.

Unfortunately, the musicians are now facing a lawsuit copyright infringement over the song, ‘Eastside’ by American XO alleging that the guitar riff that forms the basis of the track was actually copied from their 2015 song ‘Loveless’ which is quite visible once fans listen and compare the two tracks. Now that the lawsuit is officially filed, the trio along with co-writer Ed Sheeran as well as all the labels involved are facing allegations of creating a song that was a ripoff.

Ed Sheeran Was Accused Of Plagiarism Several Times

While this may be the first time for other musicians, this is actually isn’t the first time Ed Sheeran is facing such accusations. He was previously sued for copyright infringement as his chart-hit track ‘Photograph’ which was released on May 11, 2015, was claimed to be a rip-off of two songwriters, Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard’s 2009 track ‘Amazing.’

Around the same time, Sheeran faced another rip-off accusation over his 2014 track which crashed all the charts across the world, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ when Marvin Gaye’s co-writers claimed the song was copied from Gaye’s probably most-recognized hit, ‘Let’s Get It On.‘ It was specifically stated during the lawsuit that Sheeran ripped off all the melody, harmony, and rhythm composition from ‘Let’s Get It On’ in order to create ‘Thinking Out Loud.’

Despite it’s quite usual for Ed Sheeran to be accused of stealing and copying other songs during the creation of his ultimate chart-hits, fans seem to be disappointed by the latest news as the similarity between ‘Eastside‘ by Benny Blanco, Halsey, and Khalid’ and ‘Loveless’ by American XO is uncanny. Fans now have to wait and see the outcome of this lawsuit for the musicians as well as Ed Sheeran who’s most likely quite calm during this process.
