Ed O’Brien Says There Is No Radiohead At The Moment
Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien spoke to The Line-Up Podcast and unveiled some details about the band members’ mindset and plans. O’Brien talked about the possibility of Radiohead’s upcoming record by highlighting how they could go back to the studio.
Radiohead shared their latest and ninth studio album, entitled ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ on May 8, 2016. Then, the fans started to look forward to hearing the follow-up tracks, but the band members didn’t focus on creating and finishing their new work. Instead, they released a reissue album named ‘Kid A Mnesia,’ which combined their two iconic records, on November 5, 2021.
Even though Radiohead’s dedicated followers loved the recent album, they still wanted to hear new songs from the band. However, their frontman Thom Yorke had a surprise for them; his latest project, The Smile. Recently, Yorke announced his group, including Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner, which would make the fans lose their hope in a new Radiohead album. The Smile dropped their first record on ‘A Light for Attracting Attention’ on May 13, 2022.
Furthermore, in a recent interview, Ed O’Brien revealed that there’s no Radiohead right now, and every band member had various side projects which they had the right to do after all those years. The guitarist emphasized that they were never a group that came together for more money and fame. As a result, they will reunite when all of them are ready to compose and write together, which might or might not happen, according to O’Brien.
In O’Brien’s words, he said:
“There’s no Radiohead at the moment. There’s a truth to what we do. So we’re not going to be one of those bands that get together for the big payday. The thing with Radiohead is we could do something in a couple of years. We might not. But I think what it has to be, it has to be five people going, ‘I want to do this again with you.’ I think at the moment, because we’ve done it for so long, we’re all reaching out and having different experiences. That should be allowed, and that should be encouraged.”
