Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Announces His New Supergroup: The Smile

Radiohead lead vocalist Thom Yorke shared a post on his official Instagram page announcing a brand new supergroup named ‘The Smile’ including other musicians such as Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner and Radiohead lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.

As some of you might know, Thom Yorke isn’t the most active social media user, especially on his official Instagram page despite having over 400k followers. Fans couldn’t help themselves but noticing every time Yorke shares a post on Instagram, it’s almost related to a release with every post.

A few days ago, Radiohead frontman shared a post on his official Instagram account revealing an image of Ted Hughes’ poem ‘The Smile,’ without any captions or further explanations, hinting at the origin of the future band’s name without fans noticing. However, a fan who knew Yorke pretty well shared a comment under the post stressing how it must be related to a new project.

Here is what the fan said:

“He usually only posts stuff on Instagram that are related to releases.”

Recently, Thom Yorke shared another post on his Instagram page announcing that he and his bandmate Jonny Greenwood formed a superband along with drummer Tom Skinner named ‘The Simile.’ The band is collaborating with and produced by longtime Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich.

Furthermore, the band was announced to perform a surprise performance at the Glastonbury Festival live stream and the show was pre-recorded in secret earlier that week. Fans cannot wait to get their hands on the 30-minute long performance included a previously unreleased song that had been performed by Radiohead and Yorke at solo shows.
