Did Ozzy Osbourne Ever Eat A Bat On Stage?

It is long-questioned that whether Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne did really bite the head off a bat on stage or not. This controversial incident had shaken the audience back on January 20, 1982. Yet, his wife Sharon Osbourne recently posted a video on her Instagram account of a compilation of Osbourne and his pets, as if she tries to cover up his bad reputation.

In the year 1982, the heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne was performing at a concert as one of the fans threw a dead bat onto the stage. When he saw that, he picked up the dead bat from the floor, thinking it was a toy, and bit its head off. This unusual incident is probably one of the first things that come into mind when thinking about Ozzy Osbourne, and it still impacts his image tremendously.

What Did The Prince Of Darkness Say About The Incident?

Right after the ‘bat-biting’ night, the whole music scene talked about Ozzy’s attitude of putting a dead bat in his mouth, bit its head off, and threw it back into the crowd. Even that, the authorial directors made a meeting right after the show and decided to prohibit stage artists from using any live animals as a part of the event without the permission of their managers.

A couple of months after the show, Ozzy was the guest of legendary TV personality David Letterman, and he was asked to share the details of that night. Once again, Ozzy insisted that he thought it was a toy that was thrown by one of his fans from the crowd.

Here is what he said:

“It was a sheer accident actually. It was not a Batman, it was a bat. A real bat, you know. What actually happened was I got a lot of weird people in my country. It’s kind of rock and roll here and somebody threw a bat on stage.

I thought it was one of these toy bets. So, I picked it up, bite the thing’s head off and suddenly everybody is freaking out because it was a real bat.”
