Deftones have announced their upcoming album ‘Private Music’ and released the first single from the record. The announcement was revealed in a statement shared on X.
The band’s announcement provided details about the album release date and the availability of the lead single.
“‘Private Music’ out August 22,” the band announced. “Listen to ‘My Mind is a Mountain’ now.”
This marks the band’s first new album in nearly five years. Fans can now stream the debut track from the upcoming release.
The announcement comes as Deftones continues to build on their three-decade career in alternative metal. This latest project represents another evolution in their sound.
Vinyl Me Please reported that ‘Private Music’ serves as Deftones’ tenth studio album and features production from long-time collaborator Nick Raskulinecz. He previously worked with the band on ‘Diamond Eyes’ and ‘Koi No Yokan’. The album was recorded across multiple locations including Malibu, Joshua Tree, and Nashville. This contributed to a diverse range of musical influences throughout the record.
Consequence noted that the release date coincides with the start of Deftones’ North American tour, which kicks off August 22 in Vancouver. The band is also set to appear at major festivals such as Louder Than Life in Louisville and Aftershock in Sacramento this fall.
The album includes 11 tracks with poetic lyrics that continue Deftones’ tradition of blending introspective and abstract themes. Brooklyn Vegan described how the lead single “My Mind Is a Mountain” opens with heavy guitars and Chino Moreno’s unmistakable voice, setting the tone for the record.
‘Private Music’ aims to capture the energy and emotion of Deftones’ earlier work while exploring new sonic territory. This signals a compelling addition to their acclaimed discography that spans over 30 years of influential alternative metal music.
