Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 recently shared details about a harrowing incident involving his tour bus while traveling for his solo shows. The incident was documented in a post on Instagram.

The accident occurred when a tire detached from the tour bus trailer. This caused the vehicle to swerve across the freeway before striking an overpass. John 5 described the sequence of events and praised the quick actions of the bus driver in preventing a more serious collision.

“A tire flew off the trailer swerving across the freeway. The bus hit a sign on the freeway, thank God for our great driver he kept the bus under control and didn’t crash,” John 5 wrote in the caption of his video documenting the incident.

In the video showing the damage to the bus, he elaborated further on what transpired. “The wheel came off the trailer here. So the bus went swerving all over the freeway and smashed into the overpass. You can tell here. You can see the top of the bus there, smashed there. Everybody’s alright. We’re gonna make it to the show.”

Despite the frightening experience and visible damage to the tour bus, all passengers remained safe. John 5 confirmed that the tour would continue as planned.

John 5 officially joined Mötley Crüe as their touring guitarist in October 2022, stepping in for Mick Mars, who retired from live duties due to health issues. In a Guitar World interview, he expressed how the move felt like a dream come true—he’d known band members like Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee for years and had long been a fan of the band’s catalog.

At the same time, John 5 launched a new solo tour alongside fellow guitar virtuoso Richie Kotzen in the U.S., beginning October 16,  2025. The co‑headlining run has him promising “a brand‑new show and a whole bunch of songs we haven’t played in a long time plus all your favorites,” so he’ll be operating both as a solo act and a member of Mötley Crüe moving forward.
