Twisted Sister has announced the cancellation of all their previously scheduled 2026 reunion concerts due to serious health challenges faced by lead singer Dee Snider. The band released statements on Twisted Sister’s official website.

The band issued two detailed statements explaining the difficult decision to cancel their 50th anniversary celebration performances and all upcoming shows.

“With Regrets, Twisted Sister Cancels 50th Anniversary Celebration Performance,” the band announced. “Due to the sudden and unexpected resignation of Twisted Sister’s lead singer Dee Snider brought on by a series of health challenges, the band has been forced to cancel all shows scheduled, beginning April 25th in Sao Paulo Brazil and continuing through the summer.”

The statement continued with details about the band’s uncertain future.

“The future of The future of Twisted Sister will be determined in the next several weeks,” they said. “Stay tuned for updates, Jay Jay French/Eddie Ojeda, French Management Enterprises.”

A second, more detailed statement revealed the extent of Snider’s health struggles and his personal decision to step away from performing.

“A lifetime of legendarily aggressive performing has taken its toll on Dee Snider’s body and soul,” the band explained. “Unbeknownst to the public (until now) Snider (70) suffers from degenerative arthritis and has had several surgeries over the years just to keep going, able to only perform a few songs at a time in pain.”

The statement also disclosed additional health concerns that influenced Snider’s decision.

“Adding insult to injury, Dee has recently found out the level of intensity he has dedicated to his life’s work has taken its toll on his heart as well,” they continued. “He can no longer push the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll fury like he has done for decades.”

Snider himself addressed his decision with characteristic directness.

“I don’t know of any other way to rock,” he said. “The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self. In the immortal words of Dirty Harry, ‘A man’s got to know his limitations.’ Sadly, Dee Snider now knows his.”

The cancellation marks the end of what was intended to be a significant milestone celebration for the iconic heavy metal band. The Gauntlet reported that the planned reunion tour was originally conceived as a “victory lap” consisting of roughly 20 to 25 major festival dates and select headlining shows across multiple continents.

The health challenges Snider faces represent a stark contrast to his legendary stage presence that defined Twisted Sister’s identity for decades. BraveWords noted that despite his current physical limitations, Snider has maintained his “shredded” physique and explosive stage energy through sheer determination and multiple surgical interventions over the years.

The band’s decision to cancel comes at a time when many classic rock and metal acts continue touring well into their later years. However, Snider’s commitment to maintaining his high-energy performance standard has left no room for compromise in his approach to live shows.

The announcement has sent shockwaves through the heavy metal community, as Twisted Sister’s influence on the genre spans five decades. The band’s future remains uncertain as remaining members Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda evaluate their options moving forward.

The band indicated that updates regarding Twisted Sister’s future will be announced in the coming weeks.
