David Lee Roth’s recent attacks on both Sammy Hagar and Wolfgang Van Halen now took a turn with an apology. At least, that’s what people would expect to hear.
Roth’s recent video under the title ‘Family Therapy..’ the fake apology, where he mocked both Sammy Hagar and Wolfgang Van Halen, took over the internet. In the voice message he shared, he pretends to sob while stating how sorry he is, only to later reveal it was not a genuine apology:
“Before we get started today, I just wanna say something that without all the music and all the comedy and everything that I know, I’ve upset some people. I love my old rock band, and I miss Ed. I didn’t mean to upset anybody, and I would just… Don’t turn the mic off. I feel so wrong I did something so wrong. Sike, f*ck you.”
The apology came a few months after Wolfgang alleged that his only record with the band, ‘A Different Kind Of Truth,’ was absent from major streaming services due to Roth’s personal dislike for it. The voice message, also shared by Rock Feed, got some important comments from the host about Roth attacking Wolfgang:
“David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen accomplished so much together, it’s just bizarre to see him attacking his son if not out of respect for the accomplishments you had with Eddie. He was around when Wolfgang was this little kid, and now you’re kind of viciously attacking him publicly, and it doesn’t make a lot of sense.”
Roth’s Criticism On Wolfgang

‘A Different Kind Of Truth’ achieved significant commercial success upon its release, with sales surpassing 411,000 copies in the U.S. alone by the end of 2012. However, in October 2022, the album was removed from almost all streaming platforms. After the album was launched, Van Halen went on tours in 2012 and 2015, with Wolfgang playing the bass. These tours turned out to be their last performances before the band broke up.
Roth has attacked Wolfgang not only once, but twice with another video titled ‘This Crazy Kid..’ about their farewell tour. In the earlier video, Roth criticized the bassist for ejecting his guests from a New York performance during the last tour.
Roth also asserted that Wolfgang accused the singer of not giving him attention on stage during their joint tour:
“[He] commandeered a couple of monkeys to go in back, behind my back, over to the side of the stage and throw out these two great dames that I invited to be my guests to the show. In fact, you aren’t gonna believe this s—. This f*ckin’ kid, what he doesn’t know is that these two dames work for the accounting firm that represents him, not me. But as usual, he, just like his uncle and his uncle’s brother, stiffed them for tickets.”
Hagar’s Reaction To Roth’s Words

After receiving critical comments from DLR, Hagar shared his reaction to the comments Roth made about Wolfgang, who played alongside his father in Van Halen from the time he was 15 in 2006 to 2020.
In terms of Hagar’s perspective on the video, it seems that Roth’s expression of negativity towards Wolfgang can be attributed to feelings of nothing but ‘jealousy.’ He stated:
“Look, if you really think about what he said, it’s like do I sense a little tinge of jealousy in there or something? Does he feel like he’s left out or something? I mean, honestly, the only thing I can say without being cruel is he needs to find a new dispensary. That one’s not working for him.”
