David Ellefson Says Dave Mustaine And Alice Cooper Almost Sing Alike As He Reminisces Their Tour Together

Megadeth bass guitarist David Ellefson talked about the similarities between Dave Mustaine and Alice Cooper during a recent appearance on NFR podcast.
In between 1986 and 1987, Megadeth started their ‘Wake Up Dead Tour’ following the release of “Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?” album, and they supported by Motörhead and Alice Cooper during this period.
David Ellefson wanted to talk about those days and revealed the relationship between Alice Cooper and Dave Mustaine. According to David, Alice really liked the way Dave approaches the music and said that he really liked Megadeth.
Furthermore, David praised the talent of both singers as she pointed out how a great singer Alice was when he was younger and mentioned that Alice and Dave were almost singing alike back in those days.
Here is what David Ellefson said:
“Alice Cooper took us up in the early ’87. And that was great, that was our first big arena tour.
That was the move like Metallica did with Ozzy, or when Anthrax got signed and they went out with Maiden – we got signed and went out with Alice Cooper.
That was the thing. You got signed from the Combat, Megaforce, Metal Blade, and then you get signed to a major, and then you go out and do a big arena tour.”
He continued:
“And Alice was great – he got us. And it’s funny when I hear about Alice’s early stuff – oh my god, he and Dave almost sing alike.
Alice had gotten Dave, he loves Megadeth, he really likes Dave’s approach to stuff.
But it was a very different audience; whereas Metallica and Ozzy point to the same formats, Megadeth had to go out every night and work hard because that wasn’t necessarily our audience.”
