Dave Mustaine recently addressed questions about his potential solo career plans following Megadeth’s farewell tour. He shared his thoughts in an interview with Teraz Rock.

The Megadeth frontman was asked whether he would consider recording a solo album in the future after the band’s farewell tour. His response revealed his current focus remains firmly on the band’s ongoing success.

“I might. I don’t think so. I might. I might,” Mustaine said. “Right now, things are going so great for us, we’re not even really thinking about the end.”

The musician elaborated on the band’s current momentum and tour success.

“We’re thinking about the beginning of this, this campaign [in support of Megadeth’s just-released self-titled album], and heading out and, and showing this [new] music to our fans,” he continued. “And we’ve been looking at the tours that we’ve got on our schedule, and everything’s doing really well ticket-wise. Dates are selling out way in advance, and that’s good for us too because in many of the places that we booked, we’ve had to go to a different configuration.”

Mustaine also highlighted the strong demand for their live performances.

“Some places will be set up for, say, for example, 7,000 seats and they’ve got some seats up in the top that they’ve blocked off. And a band comes in and they keep selling tickets, they’ll open up those areas,” he explained. “‘Cause a lot of times they don’t open those areas up because it looks bad for bands that don’t sell out the venue. And we’ve had a lot of concerts already that has — it’s gone to a bigger-size venue.”

This isn’t the first time Mustaine has contemplated a solo career. His previous attempt took an unexpected turn that ultimately benefited Megadeth.

MetalSucks reported that the last time Mustaine seriously considered a solo record was following a severe arm injury in 2002. The injury left him unable to play guitar for 17 months. During this challenging period, he began working on what was intended to be his first solo project in 2003. He collaborated with renowned drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.

However, contractual obligations with his record label ultimately transformed these solo sessions into what became Megadeth’s 2004 album “The System Has Failed.” The album marked a significant comeback for the band after Mustaine’s recovery from his debilitating injury. The injury had initially threatened to end his guitar-playing career entirely.

The current tour success Mustaine describes represents a stark contrast to those uncertain times two decades ago. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that Mustaine recently reflected on 40 years of Megadeth history. He highlighted how the band has evolved and maintained its relevance in the metal scene.

Throughout his career, Mustaine has been the primary creative force behind Megadeth. He writes almost all of the band’s songs while handling both vocal and lead guitar duties. His distinctive writing style is characterized by rhythmically complex and progressive elements. This style has helped establish Megadeth as one of the “Big Four” thrash metal bands alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax.
