Steve Hackett Leaves The Door Open For A Reunion After Genesis’ Final Show

Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett recently appeared on The Mitch Lafon and Jeremy White Show after the band’s final show. The musician revealed that there can still be a possibility of a reunion, although the band brought their career to an end a few days ago.
In 2020, Genesis members Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford announced that they reunited and would hit the road for ‘The Last Domino? Tour.’ The tour was initially scheduled for seventeen dates in the UK and Ireland, but it had to be rescheduled twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It would mark their first time on the road since their ‘Turn It On Again Tour’ in 2007.
Collins stated that those would be his last performances with Genesis, and the band didn’t plan to record any new music. The tour started on September 20, 2021, but some of the dates were again postponed as someone in the band was tested positive. The remaining dates were rescheduled for March 2022. In London, the band delivered their final performance on March 26, 2022, and ended their music career as a group. The band’s former frontman Peter Gabriel was also in the audience, but he didn’t appear with the band on stage.
Besides Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett also wasn’t a part of the band’s reunion tour. However, the guitarist still leaves the door open for a reunion, even if it was Genesis’ final show. He explained during the interview that he could never say this would be the last show as he knows that it is never absolutely sure. The musician stated that he is aware of the fans’ expectations, so there is always a possibility of a Genesis reunion in the future.
Steve Hackett’s statements on a possible Genesis reunion read:
“People are always saying, ‘This is it, that’s it.’ It is under wrap. I remember, in 2005, there was going to be no more and all the rest right then. Lo and behold! You can never say with absolute certainty. Yes, it is being billed as such, but I would never bill any show as the last domino. That’s just me, you know. I figured that fans have invested a lot in their favorite records, their favorite memories, etc., I would always leave an open door personally.”
