During a new interview with Clarín, Argentina’s leading newspaper, Dave Mustaine stated that Marty Friedman will not be joining Megadeth on stage for their upcoming performances in Buenos Aires, quashing any speculation of a reunion.
Megadeth is set to electrify Buenos Aires with three sold-out shows at the 15,000-capacity Movistar Arena in April. These performances come just before Friedman is due to play a solo concert in the same city.
Dispelling The Hopes Of Fans

In November, Mustaine teased fans about a ‘really big surprise’ for the first show in Buenos Aires, sparking rumors of Friedman’s return to the stage with Megadeth. However, the frontman has now confirmed in his recent chat that the guitarist will not be joining the band, stating:
“No, that’s not going to happen. He’s not going to play with us. I can promise you it won’t happen. Although, mind you, I love Marty and we had a great time playing together. I want to make it clear that there is nothing wrong; it just won’t happen.”
Friedman’s brief return to Megadeth’s stage occurred twice in six months last year. He first rejoined the band in February 2023 at Tokyo, Japan’s Budokan, for a performance that included hits like ‘Countdown To Extinction’ and ‘Symphony Of Destruction.’ He made another appearance in early August 2023 at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany, where he played ‘Trust’ and ‘Tornado Of Souls.’
Friedman On His Bond With Mustaine

Reflecting on his relationship with Dave last year in March, Friedman shared with Metal Edge that any past tensions were long resolved, and they now share a great relationship, explaining:
“It’s always been great. I think if anything if there was ever any weirdness, it was probably in the minds of the people who are fans or just people who are reading media things. We chat every once in a while, and it’s always very nice.”
Following the rapid sell-out of their April 13, 2024, concert at Movistar Arena, Megadeth announced additional dates on April 14 and 16 due to overwhelming demand, with both shows selling out swiftly. These concerts are part of the Latin American leg of their Crush The World tour, which will begin in Lima, Peru, on April 6, including stops in Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and México.
