Cradle of Filth’s Dani Filth faced fan criticism when he tried to advertise through Kanye West’s long sleeve, including his band’s name.
The frontman shared a picture of West showing him wearing a Cradle of Filth long sleeve and wrote:
“West knows best! Old skool ‘Decadence Is A Virtue’ long sleeve now available in our dedicated merch stores Probity Merch (Europe and ROW) and Night Shift Merch (US/Canada) for your vulgar delectation. Want one? Ye or ne? Order now to get Ye’s in time for the festering period.”
Diverse Fan Reactions

However, his use of Kanye has received backlash from the band’s fans. One of the comments said:
“Being stoked an antisemite chose your band tee, most likely as a fashion statement, isn’t exactly a flex. Like you should probably be pushing back on this, not excited by it.”
Another fan again criticized Filth’s inclusion of West in his campaign, explaining:
“This guy is a really bad promotion.”
One other user noted, attacking Kanye:
“I don’t care about his politics. But I don’t particularly care for Kanye. He’s like a showboater that keeps getting knocked down. It’s definitely cringe to see him sporting COF.”
Another comment also touched on the failure of the campaign and said:
“This is enough to prevent me from purchasing the shirt.”
The Band’s Earlier Response

West was first spotted wearing the long sleeve back in 2017 when the paparazzi captured photos of the rapper while having dinner in Los Angeles. Following this, Cradle of Filth shared one of these photos on their Facebook page, along with a post, writing:
“Kanye West. Cradle of Filth fan. Fortunately not a collaborator.”
Kanye’s Connection To Metal

Kanye was also spotted wearing a Testament t-shirt in December 2016. Then, the band’s guitarist, Alex Skolnick, expressed his disapproval in a social media post, stating:
“Goodness gracious. This whole decrepit clan must have picked up a pile of old concert t-shirts (the same pile Kourtney K’s Slayer shirt came from) which have somehow become a ‘thing’ in trendy fashion (who’d have thought?!). Inconceivable that any of these pop-culture vultures know who the heck any of the bands are. My guess is he thinks it’s a religious group (not the first time that’s happened). That is, if he thinks at all, which lately seems unlikely. And I thought this time period couldn’t get any weirder…”
Although West’s bond with the genre has received backlash from metal fans, he is a good friend of another metal figure, Marilyn Manson. Manson contributed to Kanye’s album ‘Donda,’ released in 2021. The singer also made appearances at West’s listening events for the ‘Donda’ album.
