In a recent conversation with Metal Hammer, Dani Filth discussed why Cradle of Filth’s new album won’t feature their collaboration with Ed Sheeran.
After the singer said there would be no guest appearances in the upcoming record, the interviewer asked whether it meant the Ed Sheeran collab wouldn’t be included. Filth replied, “No because we don’t want it to overshadow the record.”
The rocker revealed, “But we are going to bring it out. Originally, everybody wanted us to bring it out to glorious fanfare but Ed’s management weren’t keen on that.”
“We’re not absolutely sure how it will emerge, but it’s been done, mixed and it’s sitting on the shelf somewhere… you know, virtually. And it’s f*cking fantastic. But only a handful of people have actually heard it. My mum hasn’t even heard it,” Dani shared.
The collaboration between Filth and Sheeran has been on the table for about three years. Dani shared an update about it in a July 2024 interview with Hayley Leggs of TotalRock. He said, “The new single will come out at the beginning of October prior to our European tour…”
“So, yeah, new single prior to the album that’s coming out — I’m going to say end of February, but I’d be lying. ‘Cause I’ve got no idea. But it’s around that time,” the vocalist noted.
Fans thought the Sheeran song would be in the new record but they won’t be hearing it there. Filth also told Knotfest in 2022, “[It’ll be released] when it’s finished. We don’t know when it’s coming out.”
“There isn’t an irony in it. We appreciate the marriage of extremes. So I’d instead do a track with someone like Ed Sheeran than I would do a song with, think of someone else. I’m not going to name names. But the clash of interests, the marriage of extremes, that’s interesting in itself,” the musician explained.
In his Metal Hammer interview, Filth disclosed that the next Cradle Of Filth album is titled ‘The Screaming of the Valkyries’ and will be released in early April.
