In an emotional Instagram post, Aja Volkman, wife of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, shared that they filed for divorce a year after their separation. The couple had been through many ups and downs during their more than ten-year relationship, which had once even led to a temporary split and subsequent reconciliation.
According to court records accessed by TMZ Aja filed for divorce recently in L.A., officially putting a name to the separation that the couple had announced last September. Following their separation, a few months later Dan was linked to actress Minka Kelly. The pair were spotted spending time together and appeared to be enjoying each other’s company and since then have made their relationship official.
Dan and Aja initially tied the knot in 2011, and their union had been characterized by both love and struggle. The couple had previously announced their plans to divorce in 2018, only to reunite and give their relationship another chance. Throughout their time together, they welcomed four beautiful children and created music that was inspired by their deep connection.
However, their marriage was not without its difficulties. Following a seven-month separation, Reynolds penned the song ‘Follow You’ about the imperfect love they shared. The song touched upon the realities of their relationship, which included moments of incredible pain alongside the more romantic incidents.
In her recent Instagram post, Volkman expressed the difficulty of navigating their personal life in the public eye while also requesting privacy and understanding during this trying time. She stated that neither she nor Dan is perfect and that they have both made mistakes throughout their relationship.
Aja Volkman’s post on Instagram read:
“Navigating being in a public space while going through all of the things we have been through this year has been hard for both Dan and I. There’s nothing to be said about the fairness of that because we both choose to be on stage, as our career path certainly comes with the territory.
However, I have never spoken about the details of our marriage or separation, or divorce. I don’t intend to. We have four amazing children and a lot of passionate music, all created and inspired by a divine connection. Neither of us are perfect people, and we both have made many mistakes, but we have also both done what are evolution permits as our best.”
She added:
“I would appreciate it if we didn’t need to create a witch-hunt out of the unknown. I think my not saying anything at all about it has led people to draw conclusions that just aren’t real. Of course, nobody ever imagines failing at anything when they begin. We fight like hell and do our best to have a positive outcome.
Life is just really wild. It’s beautiful; it’s ugly; it’s devastating; it’s miraculous; every hard thing we do in this life creates a complete version of who we really are. Yesterday marked a pretty big transition in our lives. And then, at the end of the day, when I was having a cup of tea on my front porch, George got skunked.”
Volkman didn’t provide further details about the divorce, instead shared her focus on their four children and the music they created together. As the couple embarks on this new chapter in their lives, fans and friends alike are hoping and wishing for the best for both Dan and Aja, as well as their four children moving forward.
