In a new conversation with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio, Cristina Scabbia talked about their decision to part ways with Lacuna Coil guitarist Diego Cavallotti.

“Yeah, Daniele is not like an official new member of Lacuna Coil,” the singer said about Daniele Salomone joining as the new guitarist to replace Diego. “We’re still, let’s say, testing him. He’s a great friend and we love him to pieces, but he’s relatively new to the band.”

She added, “He came in at the very end of the recording cycle, the writing cycle to help us out. I mean, he helped us out in the past with many guitar sounds. And he was actually helping Diego to fix some things. So he was the first name that we thought about when we found ourselves in need of a guitar player, because we had gigs coming.”

When asked if the split with Diego was mutual and if they still had a relationship, Cristina replied, “No, no, no, no, no. Obviously not, because we had a different opinion [Laughs]. We had a different opinion, so yeah, sometimes it happens that you disagree.”

“We had some talks before we got to that point, but we saw that nothing was changing — the things that we weren’t agreeing on weren’t changing — so we said, ‘What’s the point?’ There was no change there,” Scabbia further explained what happened before the guitarist’s exit.

When Lacuna Coil announced Cavallotti’s exit on June 17, the band said in a statement, via Blabbermouth, “As we step into a new cycle, writing and recording our next album, we are parting ways with Diego ‘DD’ Cavallotti. We thank him for the many unforgettable moments shared over the years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours. All future live plans remain unchanged and the new songs are taking form, we can’t wait to share them with our fans.”

“Yes, I am no longer part of the Lacuna Coil,” Diego also wrote on social media at the time. “Although this decision is not the result of my dissatisfaction or desire to explore new opportunities, I have serenely decided to accept it in consideration of these almost 10 wonderful years spent together, playing around the world, and to allow the band to continue its course without me.”

Lacuna Coil will release their first album since 2019, called ‘Sleepless Empire,’ on February 14.
