Stone Sour announced that the band has completed a song left unfinished during the recording of their 2010 album ‘Audio Secrecy’, with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root returning to add new parts, posted on Instagram.
The track, called “Full Of Empty,” was originally written during the sessions for ‘Audio Secrecy’ but was never finished at that time. Corey Taylor recently returned to the studio to complete the song, and Root was brought in to contribute guitar work for the new version.
Stone Sour’s announcement stated: “Stone Sour’s ‘Audio Secrecy’ (15th Anniversary Edition) arrives November 20, featuring the previously unreleased ‘Full Of Empty,’ newly recorded by the original album-era lineup with new lyrics and vocals from Corey Taylor + new guitar tracks from Jim Root and Josh Rand.”
“The expanded collection also includes unreleased demos, rough mixes, alternate versions, and a full live performance from the band’s 2010 tour. Available on expanded and remastered 3CD Box Set, exclusive clear smoke 2LP vinyl, standard black vinyl, and digitally.”
The announcement marks Stone Sour’s return to public attention after the band went on indefinite hiatus in 2020.
Stone Sour went on an indefinite hiatus in August 2020, with Corey Taylor announcing the band was taking a break so members could focus on their own projects. Jim Root had previously left Stone Sour in 2014 to focus on Slipknot, but his return to contribute guitar work on “Full Of Empty” marks a reuniting of the original album-era lineup. During the recording of Audio Secrecy, Root and Josh Rand recorded their guitar parts simultaneously.
Audio Secrecy was released in 2010 and reached the top ten in many countries. The 2010 tour captured in the anniversary edition was a major point in the band’s history at that time. Taylor recalled finding tracks from the Audio Secrecy sessions that had been forgotten, including an instrumental demo of “Full Of Empty” that drummer Roy Mayorga had brought in during the demo stage.
Hydrograd, released in 2017, was the band’s most recent studio album before they entered the indefinite hiatus in 2020. The anniversary edition announcement marks the first significant Stone Sour-related release since the hiatus began in 2020.
