In a new interview with Knotfest Australia, Shawn Crahan addressed the band’s recent change in drummers and expressed excitement about the future.

Crahan spoke about Slipknot’s decision to part ways with drummer Jay Weinberg after his ten-year tenure with the band. Despite the shift, the musician emphasized his enthusiasm for welcoming a new drummer into the fold, stating:

“I’m very excited about this idea of a new drummer. There’s many reasons for it. It’s not to be confused. It doesn’t matter what the situation may seem like. Unless you’re in the band and understand — there’s no hard feelings; there never was. We just went our way. There was really no bad things. That’s as much as I can say.”

Looking Ahead

The Slipknot percussionist continued, sharing the band’s upcoming projects:

“What I can say is Slipknot decided to move on, and that’s what we’ve done. And I’m very excited for what we have done. And we’re really working hard. And there’ll be new music, there’ll be new masks, there’ll be new people, there’ll be new ideas, celebrating a 25-year anniversary. I would imagine there’d be some shows. It can be 200 people, 500 people, 700 people, 2,000 people.”

Speculation About The New Drummer

Recent social media posts from Slipknot have sparked speculation among fans regarding the identity of the new drummer. Many have pointed to Eloy Casagrande, formerly of Sepultura, as a likely candidate based on clues such as a shared image of a Promark drumstick, a brand associated with Casagrande. Fans eagerly await official confirmation from the band.

Weinberg’s Departure

Slipknot’s decision to part ways with Weinberg was announced in November 2023, with the band expressing gratitude for his contributions over the years. They said the following in a post:

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums, and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

Weinberg himself shared his surprise and disappointment at the news but thanked the band and fans for their support. Jay’s last performance with Slipknot was on November 3 at the Hell & Heaven festival in Toluca, Mexico. Slipknot’s first concert of 2024 will be on April 27 at the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, followed by shows at Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 12 and Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, on May 19.
