Christine McVie’s Sad Prediction About Her Last Album

In retrospect, it’s much simpler to say, ‘They said this, or they knew it would be the last,’ but as the person sitting face to face with the living, breathing person, no one ever thinks it very well could be the last time. That is how it played out with Christine McVie. One moment, she was here; the next, she was gone leaving behind a prediction about her music that actually came true.

While McVie’s journey started with the blues when she was a part of Chicken Shack, she crossed paths with Fleetwood Mac on several occasions. Once Peter Green decided to step down from the band and shortly after she got married to the band’s bassist John McVie, Christine became a part of the band. Fleetwood Mac lived through its peak moments while she was involved with the band. The late singer was the genius behind some of the band’s most iconic songs like ‘Little Lies,’ ‘Don’t Stop,’ ‘Say You Love Me,’ and ‘Songbird.’

Like with any other band, there were disputes and creative challenges, and at a certain point, the keyboardist decided to depart from Fleetwood Mac to live an ordinary life without the spotlights. Yet, after a 16-year hiatus, the singer was ready to return to the stage with her former bandmates and performed with them until 2019.

Besides her work with Fleetwood Mac, the singer also had a solo journey where she released three albums. Although the singer released solo projects, she was the type to enjoy the collaborative process and having bandmates throw up different ideas and join her on stage while performing live. She was someone who didn’t enjoy the attention, which was partly the reason why she had taken all those years off from Fleetwood Mac.

Her latest release ‘Songbird,’ was a collection of material drawn from two of her previous albums in her less-recognized solo career. When she gave an interview to Uncut this past May, the singer shared that if there were ever a call to get the band back together, she would be down to do it. During the conversation, she also predicted what her last piece of work would be before she passed away in November.

The keyboardist shared that she’s not holding her breath for the phone call to reconvene, and if it didn’t, she would be okay with the fact that ‘Songbird’ could be her’ swansong.’ It turns out the singer was right, as ‘Songbird’ became the last piece of material before her passing. McVie, who had contributed immensely to not only the direction of Fleetwood Mac but also to the music industry, will never go unnoticed.

Looking back, no one could have predicted that the singer wouldn’t be with us six months later from the interview, but at least we know that she was happy going out with a bang with the release of ‘Songbird.’
