Christian Olde Wolbers, former bassist, guitarist and backing vocalist of Fear Factory, has revealed a major new addition to his project Angst Fabrik. The announcement was shared in a studio video posted on Instagram, confirming that former Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera has joined the band.

The caption accompanying the video addressed Herrera’s return to drumming after a lengthy hiatus.

“After 16 years away from the kit, the machine woke back up,” Christian Olde Wolbers wrote. “Still runs.”

The news generated a strong reaction from Fear Factory fans in the comments section. One fan wrote, “This honestly makes me WAY more excited than the latest version of Fear Factory.” Another commented, “No f*cking way!!! Raymond is back.” A third fan suggested further reunions, saying, “Now get Burton C. Bell to join and call yourselves The Archetypers.”

With Herrera now on board, Angst Fabrik brings together two key former members of Fear Factory. The reunion carries added weight given the long and complicated history between these musicians and the band they once helped define.

Herrera’s return to the drum kit marks a genuine comeback rather than a routine guest appearance. He had essentially stepped away from playing drums entirely in the years since his Fear Factory tenure ended. His reemergence in the studio with Olde Wolbers is all the more notable for longtime fans tracking the band’s various offshoots.

The timing is significant when placed against Fear Factory’s current trajectory. The band’s active lineup has moved forward without either Herrera or Olde Wolbers. It recently released its first new material in five years with the single “Roboticist.” That track marks the recording debut of vocalist Milo Silvestro and drummer Pete Webber. Both musicians joined the band in 2023, alongside bassist Tony Campos.

Fear Factory’s evolution into its current form followed a turbulent decade and a half. Guitarist Dino Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell spent much of the 2010s locked in legal disputes with Herrera and Olde Wolbers. Those conflicts reshaped the band’s lineup and ultimately pushed it toward the version fans hear today. That backdrop makes the Angst Fabrik pairing feel less like a side project and more like a direct answer to the direction Fear Factory has taken without its former rhythm section.

Angst Fabrik now represents a chance for fans who came up on the band’s classic-era lineup to hear two of the musicians central to that sound working together again. Fear Factory itself continues down its own separate path.
