Chris McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell performed to Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ on Strictly Come Dancing.
“When you start this series they ask you for a list of songs that you like and I put this song on the list,” McCausland told presenter Claudia Winkleman. “I didn’t know anything about dancing – and underneath it I wrote ‘I reckon this song might suit one of those spinny, whizzy ones.’ And I was right, wasn’t I?”
The comedian added, “Metallica are a heavy metal band, but that’s not a heavy metal song. It’s a beautiful song with a bit of a dark edge. It just felt wonderful.”
The show pairs celebrities with professional dancers to compete in ballroom and Latin dances. After McCausland’s waltz to Metallica, judge Anton Du Beke commented, “Your timing is beautiful, we know all of that stuff.”
“The thing that I most admire about you is I think about you, and thinking about other people who think they might not be able to do something, doubting whether they could do something,” he continued.
Anton concluded, “I think about you and what people are going to do. ‘I don’t think I can do that,’ then they will think about you and go ‘you know what I probably can.’ You are an inspiration.”
McCausland and his partner, Dianne Buswell, scored 36 out of 40 for their second dance of the night. McCausland, a rock and metal fan, had previously danced the tango to KISS’s ‘Rock And Roll All Nite.’
Dianne got emotional as she explained why she believes Chris deserves to make it to the final of Strictly’s 20th-anniversary series, saying, “I have taught Chris this whole time without a single visual cue.”
She went on to say, “He’s never been able to watch a dance back to see if he’s done a great job or to look at anything and go, ‘Maybe I can improve on that!’ He’s never been able to see any of his competitors, see what the competition is like, he’s had none of that yet he’s seen this competition so well because he’s captured the spirit of this show.”
Besides Chris and Dianne, other remaining duos are Sarah Hadland & Vito Coppola, Tasha Ghouri & Aljaž Škorjanec, JB Gill & Lauren Oakley, and Pete Wicks & Jowita Przystał.
