Chris Daughtry and Lzzy Hale released their cover of Journey’s ‘Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)’ the start of the year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the hit single. The singer recently spoke to San Francisco’s 107.7 The Bone and shared the feedback they received from the band’s original members. He recalled:

“Neal Schon, when we released it he replied on Twitter or something like ‘Sounds strong,’ and I believe, Steve Perry has not reached out. As a matter of fact I’m not sure he was too keen on it, but yeah I don’t know he said nothing.”

Even though Perry didn’t say anything, Chris shared that he was happy to have had approval from two members of the band. He then went on to share that Cain was also keen on their version. He added:

“Jonathan Cain ran into our producer Scott [Stevens] at a gig in LA and went out of his way to tell him how great he thought it was so we’ve gotten two vouches. So we’re happy, we’re happy with that.”

After the success of their collaboration, Chris shared that he initially didn’t think that the fans would receive their cover this well. The rocker expressed:

“We never could have imagined it would take off the way it has. Any time you touch a classic such as [this one by] Journey, there’s always a chance you’re going to get raked over the coals. I’m very grateful that hasn’t happened.”
