Carmine Appice recently opened up about his recent feud with Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx. The drummer shared with HEAVY Magazine that he had befriended them back when he toured with Ozzy Osbourne. Carmine recalled how he became friends with the band while they were just starting out by sharing:

“When she [Sharon Osbourne] said, ‘Your name is too big you need to start your own band,’ I said, ‘Okay I’m going to start my own band.’ We were on tour with Mötley Crüe and you know all that baloney I went with Mötley with Nikki Sixx in the last few months which surprised me because I thought we were friends.”

The latest feud between Sixx and Appice arose when the drummer shared his opinion on Mick Mars’ departure from Mötley Crüe. The disagreement escalated when Nikki called Carmine a ‘washed-up drummer’ and he responded by openly saying at least he can play his instrument well.

Carmine continued to tell the story of how he stuck along Mötley Crüe when they were just an opening act:

“Anyway, I was friends with them. I befriended them they were just an opening act you know. I was the headlining act like. I talked to them, hung out with them, so when I said I’m going to start a band they were like three blackhead guys with a blonde frontman.”

After he was fired from Ozzy Osbourne’s band he decided to start his own band King Kobra. He recalled his initial ideas of how he wanted the band to look by explaining:

“I said, You know what I’m going to do a band.’ So I had black and purple hair for a long time. I said, ‘I’m going to start a band where I’ll be the black-haired guy and everybody else will be blonde but we’ll put colors in everybody’s hair to make it really outrageous.”

The drummer went on to share how he got together with Mark [Marcie] Free and eventually landed a recording deal. He said:

“So I already had the idea in my head. I had Mark [Marcie] Free the singer already on board with me because I was going to do a solo album he was going to sing on it. So that was just it, I told my managers I got fired. We had some people, we did demos and we got a record deal on Capital.”
