Bush’s Gavin Rossdale Recalls His ‘Manic Public Divorce’ From Gwen Stefani

Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani, who married in 2002, ended their partnership with a divorce in 2016. Their split was highly publicized due to the rumors about Rossdale’s alleged affair with the nanny of the couple’s three sons. In a recent conversation with Classic Rock, the frontman reflected on the difficult period he went through during the divorce process.
“There was one point a few years ago where I was like: ‘I’m married, three kids, I’m falling off a cliff here!’” the singer said about how he had felt just before his divorce. “And then you go through a crazy divorce and personal stuff that’s on the edge of an abyss. As an artist, it’s the most vitalizing thing you can get.”
Then, Rossdale revealed that what he experienced over those several years inspired him to acquire an honest perspective while making Bush’s latest record, ‘The Art of Survival.’ The rocker noted, “It’s like I got a shot of adrenaline over a few years. It allows me to have a lot of honesty. It’s a very honest record.”
Further reflecting on his divorce from Gwen Stefani, Gavin added, “I went through a manic public divorce where one person gave their version, and I shut my mouth because we’ve got kids. Life has moved on, but it was a really tough time. They say divorce and death are the two hardest things to go through, so I’m one down!”
Bush’s frontman didn’t clarify the rumors about his alleged affair with their nanny, but he implied that his version of the divorce was different from Stefani’s. Rossdale said that all he cared about at the time was their three kids, so he didn’t want them to be negatively affected by the whole situation. Yet, getting over a public divorce was one of the most challenging periods of his life.
