Buddy Guy talked about his retirement plans in the recent Guitar World issue.
Starting his music journey in 1953, the blues guitarist has been playing guitar and performing for seven decades. He announced his retirement last year and that his next world tour would be his last.
In the recent interview, Guy explained why he decided to retire from touring:
“I don’t want someone coming away from my show thinking, ‘He doesn’t sound any good.'”
He also mentioned some of his blues heroes and recalled how it didn’t sound the same as before since they were older. He said:
“I watched all the old guys like B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters go until they got old. Often, when you watch older people playing shows, you think, ‘Man… they just don’t sound the way they did when they were younger.’ I remember listening to some of my heroes when they got older and thinking it wasn’t the same.”
Additionally, Guy stated that he will still be playing guitar until he can’t, and though he will stop touring excessively, it doesn’t mean he will never get on a stage again.
The guitarist shared the dates for his last world tour, ‘Buddy Guy Damn Right Farewell Tour.’ You can see the dates here.
