Bruce Dickinson Thinks Will Smith’s Slapping Incident Was Exaggarated

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson reflected his ideas about the Hollywood actor Will Smith’s controversial action during the Academy Awards in his latest appearance on Psycho Schizo Espresso. The musician also highlighted that it wasn’t that unbelievable by defining it as a typical occasion.

The 94th Academy Awards ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022, and the most distinguished actors, directors, screenplays, and others were honored. ‘The Power of the Dog,’ ‘King Richard,’ ‘West Side Story,’ ‘Drive My Car,’ ‘Encanto,’ and ‘Belfast’ drew attention as the winners. However, an incident became more popular for the audience and journalists than these works.

While presenting Best Documentary, comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss due to alopecia by saying that he could watch her in ‘G.I. Jane 2.’ Smith got angry about this comment and jumped on the stage to slap Rock. It was shocking for everyone, and Smith received a backlash even though a few people supported him for protecting his wife.

Bruce Dickinson shared his thoughts about the shocking incident, saying that the Smith-Rock situation tends to occur on an ordinary Saturday night in a pub after one person mocked something or said offensive things. According to him, everyone was exaggerating the slapping incident as they had never seen it before, although he admitted that the place was the Academy Awards ceremony. The frontman highlighted that Smith didn’t need therapy and he should calm down.

Dickinson said in his interview that:

“You might say that Will Smith may or may not have a very high opinion of himself because he’s about to get an Oscar. He thinks this man is impudent, and you are going to get a slap. I hate to say it; it’s the Oscars, but everybody’s jumping up and down like this is new. It goes on every Saturday night hundreds of times in the pub when somebody makes some jokes or says something offensive about something.

The guy goes, ‘You’re getting a slap in a minute.’ They do. Sorry but this is sometimes the way that people behave, but everybody’s like wringing their hands going, ‘Oh, my goodness! He needs to go to therapy.’ No, he needs to calm down.
