The post reflects on his lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes, the support of family and friends, and his determination to return to performing despite ongoing health challenges.

“On this Motivational Monday, strap in. You know I have lead singer long texting issues. This is going to take a moment. To me, mental motivation is powerful, but also easier said than done. As a Type 1 diabetic from the age of six years old, I had come to a crossroads in my life at a young age. I could either succumb and be a victim or choose to be victorious, knowing I was about to become a lab rat and human pincushion…and let’s be honest, the technology for diabetes was not great in 1969, but the use of scare tactics was,” Bret Michaels said.

“But the one thing that helped me was my parents, my sisters, my family & friends. Although they did not understand the disease, as it is unbelievably complicated and a daily balance, the one thing they knew was to motivate me to go the extra mile and be prepared to achieve things. Just simply to go play football, I needed to have a care kit. To ride my motorcycle, I had to be prepared. But true warriors find a way to have fun and get it done.”

He went on to describe the ups and downs he’s faced throughout his life and career, crediting his support system for helping him push forward.

“Throughout my life, I’ve hit a series of crossroads of unbelievably great moments and, no doubt, rough health domino effects. But thanks to the grace of God, good medical attention, and family, friends & fans keeping my spirits high, I always get right back on the horse,” he continued.

Michaels then addressed his return to live performances, offering fans a timeline for a potential Poison reunion.

“Just like now, setting a goal to come back and rock the stage for a few special shows, and truly hoping to see an all-original Poison reunion in either 2027 or 2028, depending on how things go health-wise.”

In a lighter moment, he shared an unexpected mishap from a recent workout session.

“But this will make you laugh. Yesterday, in the midst of the Steelers – Patriots game, I decided to work out hard. I put my weights lined up in a circuit-training routine on the floor. About 15 minutes in, in a full strut, I kicked my foot into the 20-pound weights, breaking two toes. Painful? Yes. Did I stop working out? No lol.”

He closed the message with words of encouragement for his fans.

“Here’s to all of us living full throttle, with the scars to prove it, and finding inner motivation at the lowest & most painful times. Love you, my friends. Have a great day!”

This message comes on the heels of a turbulent stretch for Michaels. His recent efforts to return to the road were derailed by a serious medical setback tied to emergency kidney stone surgery.

Michaels canceled all of his remaining 2026 solo tour dates just hours after attempting a comeback performance at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Georgia. Doctors and paramedics evaluated him immediately after that show and determined he needed significant additional recovery time. As a result, he was pulled off the road for the rest of the year.

The setback followed a complicated kidney stone procedure that had already sidelined him for weeks. The summer heat and humidity at outdoor venues posed heightened risks for Michaels given his management of Type 1 diabetes, compounding concerns about his ability to safely continue performing.

Despite the abrupt halt to his 2026 touring plans, Michaels has since shown signs of getting back on track. He recently announced his first new shows since the cancellations, with a short run of concerts beginning at an island venue. A previously postponed date with Night Ranger has now been rescheduled for October 16.

This steady, if cautious, return to the stage lines up with the tone of his latest message. It frames his health struggles not as a stopping point but as another crossroads he intends to push through, much as he has done since childhood.
