U2 frontman Bono shared his feelings about the day the bassist Beatle Paul McCartney visited him.

In a new interview with SiriusXM, The Edge and Bono discussed the highs and lows of the band’s ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere’ tour. During the discussion, the rocker remembered McCartney’s visit and how he gave them the ‘benediction.’ Bono said:

“When we did the first show [on September 29] as Edge was saying, something went off and we had a visitation. We had a visitation and if you’re gonna drop a name, drop a big name. We had a visitation from a Beatle. That’s right. We had a Beatle. We had the Macca. We had Paul McCartney, and I hadn’t been able to see any of the guests because of my voice. I’ve been locked up in the reptile house, but he came round, the band came round. We all had with one moment with the Beatle and he gave us the benediction.”

He then shared McCartney’s comment:

“‘I could hear you better than ever. I could see you, but the bit when it breaks down in the middle, I could feel you.'”

U2 ‘Stole’ Plenty Of McCartney’s Songs

At U2’s first gig in MSG Sphere, Bono chatted with the crowd between songs. The rocker also gave a shout-out to McCartney. McCartney was in the audience while the band was performing.

During the concert, U2 performed ‘Desire,’ and slipped in a snippet of The Beatles ‘Love Me Do.’ When the song ended, Bono told the audience:

“Macca is in the house tonight. Paul McCartney is here.”

McCartney was welcomed with applause from the audience. The singer added a bit of a joke to his introduction and said the band stole many songs from his category:

“Just know that we love you, and we’ve stolen a lot of your songs.”
