Debbie Harry recently chatted with the Sunday Times and confessed why she believed Iggy Pop was a better punk.

With Blondie getting ready to open for Pop at Glastonbury next Sunday, the frontwoman compared the two acts and promised to ‘do her best’ while sharing the stage with the ‘better punk’ saying:

“Well, I think Iggy’s a much better punk than I’ve ever been. But I’ll do my best.”

Still, although she let Pop be the ‘better punk,’ the singer also mentioned how her band would be performing at the festival’s Pyramid stage, also dubbed as the ‘legend’ slot, and explained why she believed they ‘deserved’ to be there:

“We’ve earned it. We’re still playing music and being creative, and that’s the essence of it all, isn’t it?”

Well, Glastonbury isn’t the first time Harry and Pop shared the stage or when the frontwoman praised the ‘Lust For Life’ singer, as the two acts, along with David Bowie, toured together in the late 70s. Debbie even recalled those ‘punk’ times with Rolling Stone in 2020 while sharing how Iggy had a ‘controlled madness’ that enchanted his performances:

“There was a certain amount of improvisation in their [Pop and Bowie] performances. It wasn’t robotic, and the passion was there. Mr. Pop is passionate. It’s pretty obvious he’s kind of a wild guy, but he has standards; he has a controlled madness, and this is what it’s really all about.”

So, after all those times she and Iggy shared throughout the years, Harry still thought Pop was the better of the two when it came to being a ‘punk.’ However, the singer also believed that Blondie had ‘earned’ their place on the Pyramid Stage, and perhaps, opening for Pop was a nice way to prove that.
