Bobby Blotzer recently chatted with White Lion drummer Troy Patrick Farrell, discussing how Mötley Crüe remained popular through controversies and how Ratt ‘crushed’ them musically.
Blotzer was discussing why a possible Ratt reunion had been holding off while addressing the personal turbulences between his bandmates, and when the topic drifted to how Mötley Crüe and Journey had been touring arenas over the years, despite inner turmoil; the rocker had a few things to say matter.
He stated how he believed how Ratt had always crushed Mötley musically while claiming the only reason the latter band received so much spotlight was due to their knack for finding themselves in trouble, as he suggested how Tommy Lee’s sex tape with then-wife Pamela Anderson made quite the headlines or how Vince Neil’s infamous crash claimed Hanoi Rocks guitarist Razzle’s life.
When it came to addressing Journey, however, the drummer seemed to admire them more, praising the band for putting their differences aside and touring, not giving in to the ‘succumbs‘ on the internet. Blotzer then criticized himself for having spoken up a few times about Ratt’s inner dynamics and fueling the rumors about the band’s structure, saying he regretted the times he commented on the matter.
Bobby’s words on how he and his bandmates were better than Mötley Crüe musically:
“Ratt‘s always crushed Mötley musically. I think they got more press — [they were associated with] movie stars, explicit sex, murders, and sh*t… so they were always in the magazines. And you know what? They deserve what they got. I don’t think they’d wanna go toe-to-toe with us, that’s for sure.”
The rocker then continued by addressing Journey’s internal feuds and criticizing himself:
“Listen, you would never think that someone as huge and widespread as Journey would succumb to this kind of Internet babble. I know that I was on the internet quite a few times, and I was airing dirty laundry, man, ’cause I was not letting certain people like Stephen [Pearcy] and that sort, ‘I’m quitting the band. I’m going out and playin’ the tunes.’
It’s not gonna go without somebody understanding that this isn’t reasonable to us, the other guys in the group. Either way, I wish I would have, in hindsight, not spoken up.”
Blotzer was sure of himself when he claimed that Ratt was better than Mötley Crüe, stating the only reason the latter band got so much media attention wasn’t because of their talent but their knack for taking part in controversies. He avidly believed his band was superior to Mötley while praising Journey for not giving in to the internet rumors.
