Saxon frontman Biff Byford has provided an encouraging update on his health and the band’s future plans following his recent chemotherapy treatment. He shared his thoughts in a post on Facebook.
The veteran metal vocalist addressed fans directly about his recovery progress and Saxon’s upcoming tour dates.
“It’s Biff here. Just checking in to let you know how things are going,” Byford said. “Yeah, so I went through the first chemo. I’m feeling pretty good, actually. A bit brutal at times, but I had a week off, so I’m feeling good now.”
The singer also provided updates on Saxon’s tour and new material they’re working on.
“Yeah, Belfast is sold out, by the way, so get your tickets bought for the rest of the shows. Everything’s going well,” he continued. “So, yeah, I’m gonna be out getting fit, exercising in a couple of weeks, [getting] ready [for the tour]. At the moment, [I’m] writing the new [Saxon] album. There’s a track playing in the background, actually. If you can listen, check it out.”
Byford concluded his message with plans for future updates and the band’s November tour dates.
“So, yeah, we’ll see everybody in November. And I’ll give you an update later on, next month, to see how everything’s going,” he said. “So yeah, keep the faith and peace and quiet. See you soon.”
Byford’s determination to continue with Saxon reflects the band’s enduring legacy. It also shows his personal commitment to the music that has defined his career for nearly five decades.
WOUB Public Media reported that Byford has been leading Saxon since the band’s formation in 1975. This makes him one of the most enduring voices in heavy metal. The band emerged from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. They have maintained their relevance across multiple generations of metal fans.
The resilience Byford demonstrates in his health battle mirrors the band’s long-standing philosophy. San Antonio Current noted that Saxon has lived by the motto “Never Surrender” from their 1981 album Denim and Leather. This principle has guided them through various challenges throughout their career.
Saxon’s blue-collar ethos and working-class roots have been central to their identity since their early days. Louder Sound highlighted that the band’s authentic approach to heavy metal has kept them connected to their fanbase. Byford’s distinctive vocals have served as the band’s signature sound for decades.
The upcoming November tour dates and new album work mentioned in Byford’s update demonstrate that Saxon continues to prioritize their music and fans despite the current health challenges. This commitment to their craft and audience has been a hallmark of the band’s approach throughout their extensive career in the metal scene.
