When Alice Cooper Lashed Out At Robert Plant For Avoiding Led Zeppelin Reunion

Led Zeppelin can be described as one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in the world, thanks to the band members’ talents as musicians and their iconic works. The band created their unique styles by combining different genres such as hard rock, metal, blues, and folk music in their records. So Led Zeppelin members gained huge popularity and wealth even after the band’s break up.
Even though Zeppelin disbanded years ago, they preserved their popularity, and their dedicated fan base continued to listen to their songs. Also, their fans hoped they would reunite in one day, but Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant shattered their hopes during multiple interviews. However, some musicians also objected this decision, such as Alice Cooper.
Robert Plant Didn’t Want A Led Zeppelin Reunion
Unfortunately, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham passed away due to asphyxiation on September 25, 1980, at the age of 32, and his accidental and early death devastated his family, bandmates, and fans. Many people assumed that Led Zeppelin would hire another drummer, such as Cozy Powell, Carmine Appice, Barriemore Barlow, or Simon Kirke. However, they decide to disband after Bonham’s death.
After they announced their breakup, the band was received many offers for reunion tours and other projects, but Robert Plant refused all of them except for his collaborations with Jimmy Page. Although the other Led Zeppelin members, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham’s son Jason Bonham, accepted to reunite, the frontman insisted that they were too old and wanted to focus on his solo career.
The Reason Alice Cooper Targeted Rober Plant
Along with his unmatchable vocal talent, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant is also known for his stubbornness about pursuing a solo career even though the band’s fans and his bandmates have been waiting for their reunion for a very long time. Plant highlighted that he’s too old to go back to the golden days of Led Zeppelin, but Page and Jones disagreed with him. Alice Cooper also criticized the frontman’s statement saying that it wasn’t reasonable.
Cooper targeted Plant, saying:
“They are just standing there. What is so hard? Jimmy Page wants to do it. John Paul Jones wants to do it. They got Bonham’s son, who is a killer drummer,”
It can be understood from Cooper’s words that he didn’t understand why Plant insisted on preventing a Led Zeppelin reunion which saddened and disappointed their fans. The Godfather of Shock Rock clearly said Page and Jones were ready to return, and Bonham’s son was a very talented drummer who could replace his father in Led Zeppelin. However, none of them were able to convince Robert Plant.
