As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis recently issued a public statement addressing his ex-wife and past allegations. He shared his perspective on recurring patterns in his personal life. The statement was posted on Instagram.

The statement came following a new interview with his ex-wife Dany Ciara. She had expanded upon past allegations of abuse against Lambesis in greater detail than previously shared publicly.

“I stayed quiet about my personal life because it wasn’t relevant to the work,” Lambesis said. “I’m only speaking now because the same pattern keeps repeating. Old stories resurface only when my life and career move forward again. I’m not interested in drama or attention. The music either stands on its own or it doesn’t.”

Lambesis addressed what he sees as a pattern of timing in these public statements.

“What is difficult to ignore is when someone you moved on from long ago suddenly becomes publicly fixated right when momentum returns,” he continued. “That kind of timing explains itself.”

The musician emphasized his perspective on accountability and context in his statement.

“Context matters. Removing it is the easiest way to manufacture a narrative, especially when platforms are willing to host one-sided stories without accountability. I was held accountable for my past over a decade ago,” he said. “Since then, my life has been public, documented, and scrutinized. If anything illegal had happened in the years since, it would have been addressed through proper channels.”

Lambesis drew comparisons to similar situations involving other public figures.

“This isn’t even unique. The same sequence played out with another artist, Greg Overton, following a surge of visibility after appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast,” he noted. “Public commentary from a former relationship followed immediately. People noticed then, just as they notice now.”

The statement concluded with Lambesis’s intention to focus on his music career moving forward.

“Some people build things. Others only appear when there’s something to attach themselves to. In the end, it’s the work that lasts, not the noise around it,” he said. “It’s over. Time to finally move on. I’m going back to making music. I have an album to finish before the next tour.”

This latest controversy comes at a particularly turbulent time for the metalcore band. The band has faced significant internal upheaval in recent months.

IMDB reported that the band experienced a mass exodus in October when guitarist Ken Susi, drummer Nick Pierce, bassist Ryan Neff, and longtime guitarist Phil Sgrosso all departed over what they described as a “difficult and serious situation.” The departures left Lambesis as the sole remaining member of the group that had been touring and recording together.

Lambesis’s reference to being “held accountable for my past over a decade ago” relates to his 2013 conviction for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his then-estranged first wife. Loudwire noted that the founding As I Lay Dying vocalist was arrested in Oceanside, California in May 2013 after the failed murder-for-hire plot. This resulted in his imprisonment and the band’s temporary hiatus.

Despite the band’s troubled history and recent member departures, The PRP revealed that Lambesis has since rebuilt the roster of As I Lay Dying with all-new members. He has begun touring and releasing new music with this new incarnation of the band.

The timing of these personal allegations coinciding with the band’s recent activities and member changes has added another layer of complexity to an already controversial figure in the metal community. As Lambesis attempts to move forward with his musical career, the resurfacing of past issues continues to cast a shadow over the band’s future endeavors.
