Heart’s lead singer Ann Wilson addressed fans’ concerns about her recent wheelchair use in a new interview on After Dinner Thinks with Ann Wilson.
“It’s not about cancer, it’s about me being a klutz,” Wilson explained. “I ended up busting her elbow in three places and then having to have it pinned back together with screws and all that kind of stuff.”
“The pain level is still way too much to take it out of the sling,” she continued. “So I chose to sit because then I can just concentrate on singing and not keeping my balance and having somebody out there catching me when I reel to the side.”
Wilson addressed the public perception of performing in a wheelchair directly. “I think it’s looked on as some kind of admission of vulnerability. And we have to look at the person and go, ‘Oh that’s too bad’ and bring negativity into it. It doesn’t have to be that way. No, it’s a great tool. And I’ll be up and out of it after a while.”
The elbow injury represents the latest in a series of health challenges for the legendary vocalist. However, these setbacks haven’t affected Heart’s ambitious touring plans.
Reports from Blabbermouth indicate that Wilson has successfully overcome both knee surgery and cancer treatment. Her resilience through these medical challenges remains evident.
Data from American Songwriter shows the band is currently performing on their Royal Flush Tour. They have already planned their new ‘An Evening With Heart’ tour starting in May 2025.
Insights from 1065 The Arch confirm that Wilson’s temporary wheelchair use hasn’t impacted any planned performances. The quality of their shows remains unchanged.
Wilson’s determination to perform while recovering has earned support from fans and fellow musicians. Her commitment to music stands firm despite these temporary physical limitations.
