Amy Lee of Evanescence has made bold statements about challenging societal norms through her latest musical collaboration, as reported by NME.
The singer discussed the meaning behind her new song “End of You,” which features Courtney LaPlante and Poppy, emphasizing themes of female empowerment and social change.
“For me, it’s about taking on the patriarchy,” Amy Lee said. “In order to make way for the new, we have to let some old ways die, and I don’t feel that should be as hard as it is.”
Lee continued to elaborate on her vision for progress and unity among women.
“I love change, and things can stand to definitely get a lot better than they are right now,” she continued. “It’s about challenging the norms and showing how strong we are when unified as women.”
The collaboration represents a powerful statement from three prominent female voices in the rock and metal scene.
This groundbreaking collaboration didn’t happen by chance. It emerged from a creative vision that brought together three distinct artistic voices in an unprecedented way.
Louder Sound reported that the idea for “End of You” originated from Poppy and Jordan Fish, former Bring Me The Horizon member and producer of Poppy’s 2024 album Negative Spaces. Poppy explained the concept as wanting to create “our version of a dark Moulin Rouge,” inspired by the famous jukebox musical’s energy and female empowerment theme. Amy Lee and Fish had already been working together, which helped bring the project to life collaboratively at Lee’s home. Poppy wrote lyrics for Lee’s parts and Lee wrote for Poppy’s.
The visual component of “End of You” reinforces the song’s powerful message through striking imagery. Melodic Magazine revealed that the song’s accompanying music video features a dystopian fantasy setting with a faceless antagonist obsessed with control. The three artists showcase distinct vocal styles ranging from Lee’s classic vocals to LaPlante’s bold false cord screams. This highlights the strength and unity of female rock musicians today.
This collaboration comes at a particularly significant time for Poppy’s career trajectory in the metal scene. Blabbermouth noted that Poppy has had a monumental year within the metal scene, with her collaboration “Suffocate” being nominated for “Best Metal Performance” at the 2025 Grammy Awards. She also made history as the first female solo nominee in the category for her 2021 solo track “Bloodmoney.”
Beyond her musical achievements, Poppy continues to push artistic boundaries across multiple mediums. She has explored performance art, video direction, and even authored a sci-fi graphic novel. This demonstrates her multifaceted artistic vision that extends far beyond traditional music boundaries.
