Alissa White-Gluz recently opened up about her departure from Arch Enemy, sharing insights into her decision-making process in an exclusive interview with Metal Hammer.

The former Arch Enemy vocalist addressed the emotional complexity of leaving the band after an 11-year tenure. She discussed how she approached the announcement with careful consideration.

“It was definitely difficult but change is always a wild mix of fear and excitement,” White-Gluz said. “When you spend that many years with something, it becomes a huge part of your life and identity.”

She elaborated on the weight of her decision and the creative investment she had made in the project.

“So making that announcement wasn’t something I took lightly,” she continued. “I had devoted an enormous amount of my creative energy to the project for more than half of my career.”

White-Gluz emphasized her commitment to treating music as more than just routine work. She explained her meticulous approach to the announcement.

“I really love music and art, I can’t bear to treat it like just another day at the office,” she said. “That’s why I put so much extra care and intention into every lyric, performance, recording, and visual that I do. I felt a real responsibility to handle the announcement with respect for the fans, for the music, and for myself. Just getting straight to the point felt like the only way to honor my past while also stepping confidently into what comes next.”

The vocalist expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she received following her announcement.

“The fans’ and industry peers’ responses honestly blew me away,” she said. “There was so much love, encouragement, and genuine support, more than ever before, and it felt incredibly energizing. What really stood out to me was how strongly people connected to the idea of my growth and evolution. It made me feel deeply grateful and also very motivated.”

White-Gluz concluded by reflecting on the importance of artistic evolution and her commitment to creative freedom.

“It reinforced that the connection we’ve built is strong, and that it naturally carries forward,” she said. “That is something I have always been focused on in my career: stepping outside of my comfort zone and outside of the box so that I can have artistic freedom without being typecast. That support gave me a lot of confidence and excitement about the future, because I really do believe that art and artists are meant to evolve.”

White-Gluz’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Arch Enemy’s history. Her tenure coincided with the band’s most commercially successful period.

Loudwire reported that White-Gluz led Arch Enemy through their most commercially successful era. Albums achieved unprecedented chart success during her time with the Swedish melodic death metal band. Her departure has left fans speculating about the band’s future direction and potential replacement.

The timing of White-Gluz’s exit has generated considerable buzz in the metal community. The PRP noted that Arch Enemy has begun teasing their new era following her November 2025 departure. The band’s cryptic social media posts have fueled widespread speculation among fans about who might fill the vocalist position.

Meanwhile, White-Gluz has wasted no time in pursuing her solo career. Chaoszine revealed that she has already released material from her debut solo project. This includes the single “The Room Where She Died,” which features compositions by Kamelot’s Oliver Palotai and guitar contributions from notable musicians in the metal scene.

The speculation surrounding Arch Enemy’s future has intensified. Metal Injection observed that both the band and former vocalist Angela Gossow have shared matching social media teasers, leading to rumors of a potential reunion. However, these rumors have been met with denials from Gossow herself, leaving the band’s next chapter uncertain.

White-Gluz announced her departure from Arch Enemy in November 2024 after joining the Swedish melodic death metal band in 2014.
