Ministry’s Al Jourgensen shared his thoughts about former roadies becoming successful artists during an appearance on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan.
Jourgensen discussed career trajectories in industrial music. He reflected specifically on how Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson progressed from working crew to becoming major stars.
“Trent Reznor started out as a roadie for us. Next thing I know, he’s on the cover of Rolling Stone, and we’re still slogging in the trenches,” Jourgensen said. “His roadie was Marilyn Manson, who then overtook him. So it’s kind of like this tree.”
Jourgensen expressed his supportive attitude toward their success. “But not one minute was I ever bitter about that. I cheered them on. I’m like, ‘This is great.'”
“No, for not one second did I ever feel bitter or anything about the success of other people,” he added. “I was actually glad to see them go on their way and carry on what we were trying to do from the beginning of Wax Trax!, which was basically to upend music and the music industry.”
The connection between Ministry and Trent Reznor extends beyond a simple roadie position. Their relationship reveals a rich history of collaboration and mutual influence in the industrial music scene.
